My oldest son, Gavyn, now twelve, has a rare genetic condition, presenting as epilepsy, intellectual disability, and significant behavioral challenges. He requires many medical and community support services that can only be accessed through Medicaid. My ten-year-old, Brayden, has utilized Medicaid to pay for behavioral health services.
Recently, I gave birth to my youngest son, Lincoln, now five months old, at Women & Infants Hospital. During my third trimester, I was diagnosed with pregnancy-induced hypertension, requiring intensive monitoring for the remainder of my pregnancy, including weekly visits with my obstetrician, weekly blood work, and twice-weekly visits to the Prenatal Diagnosis Center. In October 2024, when I was 36 weeks pregnant, my hypertension evolved into preeclampsia with severe features, requiring immediate induction.

My providers made sure my baby and I stayed healthy throughout my pregnancy through to his birth, but I can’t imagine the expenses my family would have incurred had I not had Medicaid coverage. The Medicaid cuts being proposed could absolutely cripple families like mine, leaving countless moms and babies without adequate medical care.
